Blackened Ribs, or is that Black Out Ribs

Working, working, working. In the middle of an email, plonck — no power (no internet, no wireless, laptop still running). Always exciting on the island.

Find other things to do: load garbage and recycling in the mommy van to make a dump run when they open at noon (Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday 12-4pm), swing by Paper, Scissors on the Rock, the liquor store (hopefully they can sell me something for cash), the grocery store (which has a generator).

By the time I get to PSR, power is back on, but by then I have most of my errands done. High-gain USB Wi-Fi Antenna isn’t in yet, coming USPS so who knows when they arrive. UPS at noon or so, but USPS?

Yes, we will have heat to do the wilted spinach with Canadian Bacon dressing, and to bake the bread to try out the new breadmaker I picked up at the dump — a wide one, makes bread that almost looks like a normal loaf. The dump has a huge shed called the “Take It or Leave It” — recycling at it’s best.

Tonight is dinner with Lynne Keeley, a local copywriter, graphic designer, dog lover. Seems she one of the few people I know on this rock that actually drinks! Manhattans, here we come.

Two slabs of ribs on the BBQ/Smoker in the General’s Sauce (he’s now in Renton, God help him)…. fresh bread (new breadmaker from the dump) with a challah base using sweet cream soup rather than water — needs more water, and the veg was a bag of spinach cooked up with reduced bermuda onions and canadian bacon with orange sesame dressing. Good. Damn good.
