Titan Missile Control,

with wine, then steak.

Today’s mission is to visit the Titan Missile Museum which is about 25 miles south of Tucson. This the the only Titan Missile silo still in existence that still houses a (deactivated) missile. At least one of the others has been converted into a house with the very deep basement. Event though the “crew tour” at 2pm was cancelled, it turns out the the noon tour guide we got (Marge) was one of the crew members when the site was operational. Truly an amazing place, wouldn’t mind taking their 3 hour tour, but that doesn’t happen until the winter tourist season.

Late afternoon is wine with Jill’s mother, who has a winter home just north of Joe and Nikia’s — in a gated community that I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford. She is in the middle of a kitchen remodel but it still looks good. But all the “sanitary” spaces need remodeling since all the cabinets are 39″ high rather than 36″ standard, and Norma (Jill’s mother) is a petite woman. Frank Llyod Wrightish architecture with two sided stacked stone (thinking sandstone) fireplace and dividing wall to the kitchen. We split (with the contractor) a lovely bottle of 2003 Russian River Pinot Noir from Gary Farrell.

Dinner out tonight with Joe at the cowboy bar that has good steaks (since we didn’t have steak last night). Nikia took a three hour nap on the couch and now has to study all night.
