A calm day of cooking and reading. Norma and Jon cooking, me reading. Almost through the stack of reading material — down the the latest Popular Mechanics (and now four books after Christmas).
We blew through the presents last night since there would be company for dinner tonight. Friends, co-workers, those with no place to go — a wonderful dinner for six. Lots of wine, an amazing “Sun Bread” – bread (with orange rind) baked into a smiling sun face, a family recipe from Norma. A six-rib prime rib roast, grilled sweet potatoes, antipasto, and a couple of pies (ignore the fact the sugar was forgotten in the making of them). Oh, and lots of wine.
A relaxing day until about 9:30 when a car came skidding around the corner and took out the power pole next to the house (luckily down the hill). It actually didn’t cut off the power, but the downed lines made it impossible to get through on the road so the power company cut the power to the house (and I assume, everyone up the hill).
About 3am they were finally done with putting a new pole in. I think there were MANY happy power company employees — let’s see, dinner is done, then you get the emergency call for TRIPLE time. Sorry, no pictures.
