Rental Car, Lost in the Harbor, Newcastle.

Up in the morning, should have taken the 9am shuttle to the airport rather than the 10:10. Took them awhile to find a van that had a current registration through when we were travelling. Didn’t hit the harbor until almost noon… Marty and Eric had been there by ten. Joyce decided to use her hotel voucher since she has come down with bronchitis.

Have I told you how much I dislike driving on the wrong site of the road? And it seems that that’s all I’m doing today — much happier once we are out of the city and looking for a place to have lunch. That place turns out to be a biker hamburger bar in Mount White called the Road Warrior Inn… good burgers, huge fries, and lots of flies since we were eating outside under the canopy. Interesting bar stools made from the front forks of motorcycles. But, hey, the bathrooms were clean.

The stop for tonight is going to be Newcastle at the Comfort Inn. It was a bit ragged, and at $100AUS a night, you’d think it would have free wireless, or at least something approaching Comfort Inn standards. As both Marty and Eric commented… what a dump. We would have been happy with the dump had it been half the price. It was convienent, it was on the highway that we need tomorrow, and the management was definately all from one family, and they were helpful with all of our ice needs.

Across from the Woolies (Austrailian for Woolworths — which appears to be owned by WalMart) was a Hertz agency so we were able to get Marty and Eric on the contract. IT will come in handy since I don’t really want to drive for the rest of the holiday.

Tonight we ordered in food from the Bamboo Cane. Ginger Scallion Beef, Phud Thai Mixed Meats, and Szechuan Lamb. Came in nice reusable containers, but all the dishes looked suspiciously like each other. The Phud Thai was made with wide noodles, and not much in the way of a peanut sauce. The lamb and the ginger beef were good.

Early night for all.
