Well — earlier this week I’d said I was going to the island on Wednesday, but then the stove guy came. Then I said today, but I’m not in the mood for a round-trip in a single day since tomorrow I’m heading to the end of the state to pick up lumber (bad use of gas, but I need to get the pantry done), then to Olympia to offer advice to MelbaToast on her new place, then poker with the boys — and then decision time. Up early on Saturday to make flight from Sea-Tac, or drive back Friday night and sleep a little longer in my own bed.
I want to get the stuff that is here put away before I introduce any more junk into this place. Hence, the living room is starting to look like a living room…
Though it is missing a bunch of furniture that is still on the island, like the really comfortable reading chair that belongs to Helene.
The dining table is getting there, still need to cut down the leaf, which is on today’s list since I need to cut down the pieces for the TV swivel stand (also out of scrap bamboo plywood).
Lots of little projects to keep me busy — like drilling out ALL the holes in six stove burners and one oven burner on the rusted out hulk of a stove that will top $1000 by the time it’s done. Ouch. The tech was here yesterday (a shade less than $500) and took many pieces to be replaced. In my despondency over the cost, I went out and made an impulse purchase of the Nintendo WII game machine — I’m thinking of it as my exercise machine since I use it to bowl and play tennis — worked up a sweat yesterday afternoon!
Back to work, no rest for the wicked.
