Next Stop Lake McDonald (Lodge).

Out of the house a little before 9am so I can kick the keys back in and get an envelope for Steve’s money order and lodge a complaint about children running wild upstairs from 7am to midnight.

Next stop is the Lake McDonald Lodge in Glacier. Need to kick in $80 to get this year’s Golden Eagle Pass which is now called America The Beautiful National Parks and Federal Lands Pass — now that’s a mouthful. Maybe we should call it the ATBNPFLP.

A bunch of freeway followed by lots of two lane highways up past Flathead Lake.

Well, I’ve checked into the Lake McDonald Lodge in Glacier… pretty, and pretty expensive — $154 before taxes and dinner. But the lodge predates the park, built in 1910, and the fact that I have my stick on antenna stuck to the veranda swing window pointed down the lake to civilization to get a broadband signal…. frankly I wasn’t expecting that — next time I’ll bring the 3 watt amplifier and the trucker antenna. I love glacier park — the peacefulness, the beauty, and now a broadband connection so I can blog while staring out at the lake drinking scotch. I’d attach a photo, but the connection isn’t that good — in fact, it keeps dropping in and out.

Actually I love all the national parks, I grew up with them thanks to my parents.

Photos will be posted when I get a decent connection, which might mean on my return since I’m guessing that tomorrow’s stop, the Many Glacier Lodge wont’ have any signal at all — guess I could do it from Shelby before/after going to prison.

Dinner tonight at Russell’s Fireside Dining — though it’s at the other end from the fireplace. Lots of materials to bring back for Swanda on what to see and do.

Truth be told there was a fireplace at the end of the dining room as well. The Bison Rib Eye came a little over done (I must remember to order rare off the coast). Spent time after dinner wandering around looking at the staff who is at best half my age, taking pictures and listening to the impromptu piano players in the lobby. Much more intimate than the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier — thinking this is my new favorite.

And my silly shot for today was taken doing 35mph coming into the park — the contrast between the bikers in the background getting photographed in front of the sign, and my cell phone and hula dude on the dash… priceless.
