Well — the merger of USAir and America West has some interesting combination effects.
- Tatty hubs in need of renovation (USAir).
- Plastic glasses (of the large 6oz variety — really LARGE for a glass of wine) and plastic silverware in First Class (America West).
- They still use the china from USAir — but they don’t bother to heat up the apple pie even though they have the ovens in the galley (USAir).
- Snack basket (large variety to choose from) as the First Class meal on 2-3 hour flights (America West).
- Bland corporate looking paint job on the planes (USAir).
- Modern hubs (America West).
- 757′s configured with only 8 seats in First Class for transcontinental runs and the seat pitch is worthy of a coach seat — and they REALLY need to be refurbished, everything from the drop-down TVs with bulging cases to the worn seat covers (USAir).
- 1-pole headphone jack (America West)
- 2-pole headphone jack (USAir)
All that said — of the six legs on this trip, only one was late — and that was Charlotte-Tampa, and only 40 minutes.
