Celebrated my 51st circle around the sun with 14 friends and soon to be friends. It culminated in peach cobbler with candles (had to rush to blow them out before the wind got them), two birthday cards and a rubber chicken (from Archie McPhee!) — not a bad introduction from people who have been rafting together for a decade or two.
Day 2 on the river — and testing the bamboo clothes to boot. Should have brought other sizes for people to try on and pass along comments. Initial impression is that it’s better than cotton (faster drying), but not as good as nylon — which I would hate as a shirt.
Tonight we are camped above “Indian Dick Rapids” though I doubt that’s it’s real name. Does look like a giant penis sticking out from the cliff side.
Mileage count for today was 15 miles. If we did this everyday we could have 3 layover days… My present guess is that we will get 2.
For day 3 on the river I’m going with the splash jacket and nylon shorts. Apparently we are having more water in the boat tomorrow than today.
Now if the wind would die down so I don’t wake up with a mouth of grit.
