Wow. Day 20 on the river. As Wine Czar I can report that there is most of a liter of white and six liters of red for tonight Thai Chili Lime Curry.
We are five miles from the take-out (mile 225) and finally my Northwest skin is cracking and drying from the constant exposure to sand. The Teva patch is holding — but they are destined for the trash tomorrow night.
The mood in camp has already become nostalgic. I think we are all dreaming of being able to piss and poop at the same time (rather than piss in the river and poop in the box). Add a hot shower and ice for our cocktails (not counting last night when we bummed ice from a commercial run for our cocktails) and at least I am lusting for civilization. It will be nice to not have to constantly be worried about sunlight for the charger.
My understanding is that the takeout fee to the Indians is now $50 a person, and more fees for cars and trailers — and the “services” at takeout are bad — no peeing in the river, just in their under-serviced porta-potties. Time will tell.
