Moonsong was over at noon to discuss the shower installation for the church — looks like he’ll be on the 12:35 ferry and I’ll be on the 3:30pm ferry to Lopez for some demolition in preparation for a shower in the bathroom of the church. We just need to make sure that there is still water running for RIAW’s Turkey Day visit. Debris I’m sure he can deal with, no water, I doubt it.
Next stop on they days journey was to the old apartment to pick up two boxes of wine, a messenger bag from Coca-Cola and my new refurbished laptop to replace the “Curtis Special” that I’ve used for the last month. What wasn’t there was the battery and charger for the new camera that I bought at Sears in Hawaii. It’s possible that the package was small enough that they actually put it in Swanda’s mailbox so that will have to wait until he gets home.
Got all but the wine unloaded before the urge to unpack the laptop came over me. Sort of like Christmas.
Laptop is a little more scratched and used than I’m used to in Refurbished Products — but takes a charge and runs well. Nice and light, good key action, and a screen that swivels. Has a PCMCIA card slot for the Sprint Broadband card, but what I’d didn’t realize is that it doesn’t have an optical drive. I don’t usually need one on the road since I’m not a movie watcher, but it is going to make loading software a tad more difficult since I’ll have to share one of the optical drives on another machine on the network.
Late afternoon call from Curtis to see if I’m coming to dinner with Swanda — wasn’t aware that I was invited, but that would get me a chance to pick up the charger/battery — and drink his booze rather than mine.
Drinks at the old apartment with Swanda, Curtis, and his SF friend Phil — an artist — check out his site at: http://www.philliphua.com.
Dinner was at what I like to refer to as SwandaHeleneChinese which is catty corner from the apartment. I just give myself over to letting Swanda order — we had like eight dishes for the four of us — and we managed to not have anything left over to take home — no wonder I’m feeling bloated back at home — don’t even want a nightcap!
More time configuring the new laptop, then off to bed. Looks like it’s going to take several days to get the new machine the way I want it — let’s hope if doesn’t meet a similar fate as the last new laptop cause I’m tired of setting these things up.
