Early Christmas Wish List.

And here we are again in the automotive world with my early Christmas Wish List — but Valentine’s Day would be even better (though, if you ordered it on Valentine’s Day, it might arrive by Christmas).

2008 Dodge Sprinter. $53,140 MSRP according to the Dodge website with a ton of options. Add another couple of hundred dollars to get the Mercedes-Benz original badging kit from Europe to take away the Dodge “ick” factor.

So, through Sportsmobile I can get the same equipment for $48,096 — which is the only discount on the Sprinter that I can find… assume that they are not taking the standard dealer markup but are still considered a “dealer” since they buy in bulk for the motor-home trade.

Now, add $12,543 worth of hardware like diesel cook-stoves and refrigerators and upgraded electrical, and then another $25,911.00 for the Sportsmobile modifications and we are up to $86,550 before putting any of the computers and other electronics in the new mobile studio.

Shit — and I forgot the side awning painted to match the van — there is another $1,407 to bring it to $87,957 — and then there is the tax on a $48,096 vehicle. Ick!

Guess I’d better sell the church!

    either that or keep Bob.

Well — Bob get’s 8-10 miles per gallon, and the Sprinter (that would be SOB, or Son of Bob) gets 22-25 miles per gallon, and is easier to drive. Let’s see — the gas savings of double miles over an extra $70,000 in cost…. huh.
