Yesterday and Today In Review.

Let’s start out with the review of yesterday’s events.

Dinner in Tacoma at an Argentine restaurant – Azadoon the up and coming 6th Avenue strip. Food: A-. I had the ceviche which was a lovely blend of their fresh fish and pico de gallo, served with plantain chips. To round out the meal I had their Hoja Roja which is lolla losa leaves, crisp ham, hard cooked egg, cabrales bleu cheese, dungeness crab legs, in a pistachio buttermilk dressing. Damn tasty. Atmosphere: B. A little noisy. Valet parking available for $5 which seems a little steep for a neighborhood joint — but the weirdest thing is that the wood smoke from the oven penetrated my clothing so that I smelled like a hot dog for the rest of the evening (and the smell was still in the laundry basket this morning — like when there was smoking in Washington state bars and taverns).

After dinner it was off to see the Kinsey Sicks at UPS — and no, it wasn’t what Brown could do for you — it was the University of Puget Sound.

The review: drag queens gone political — and I thought UPS was such a conservative school, but there was a huge gay-lesbian turnout for the event, and most looked like students. I’d never been to the campus before, nice! Of course, all those young guys help with the scenery.

And onto today…

Down to Olympia for a noon meeting and lunch with Dick Francois, the director of Development for The Evergreen State College. That’s a nice way of saying the money raising wing of a public institution. Reason for the meeting? Is there any other reason than sniffing around for money? There is nothing free about a free lunch.

That said, it was a great time that stretched past 3pm (from arriving at noon!) so the conversation was good. It was good to see all the renovations going on in the library building — with the library chunk done, now it’s just all the college office on the other end to finish, then it’s onto the CAB (College Activities Building) to do the earthquake retrofit.

What did make Dick happy was to find out the TESC is in my will — guess that means it’s a living estate gift, or something like that — need to remember to get him a copy of the will at some point. Now THAT will boost my scholarship funds (current endowment is only about sixty grand yielding about a three grand a year perpetual scholarship).

Evening is dinner with Curt and Brandon — chicken legs wrapped about mushrooms and wild rice and a nice salad (and a little Bonny Doon white wine) and we have a quick nutritious meal before the rest of the boys show up for poker. And that is the rest of the evening, wish me luck!
