Brokeback Heath.

Yes, I know. Brokeback Mountain came out years ago. And I read the Annie Proulxstory in the New Yorker when the movie came out — the full story was still posted on the website then. But with all the hoopla, I’d never seen the movie.

And then Heath Ledger died — from too many meds from too many doctors — too bad it wasn’t Rush Limbaugh instead.

And with Valentine’s Day almost upon us, a romance movie sounded good.

I thought it was time. Hello, Amazon, send me a wide-screen movie.

A couple of days later the boys (Heath and Jake) arrive in my mailbox On a quiet Sunday night I put the movie in. It’s painful. I’ve been in that situation (minus the cowboy hats and horses). I’m still friends with several of them — even with their wives (who may or may not know).

Thankfully the phone rings halfway through. Saved by my recorded voice “Incoming — Incoming — You Don’t Who It’s From But Pick Up The Phone”.

Over an hour later, I try again. I make it another half an hour into the film. It’s like waiting for a train wreck that you know is going to happen. And you can’t stop the train other than to “pause” once again.

The next day, another fifteen minutes before the “pause” button.

Someday I’ll finish the film. It makes me want to go back in time, as painful as it is.
