I Knew It Wouldn’t Last.

No — we aren’t talking about the diet — we are talking the “travel drought” — I’m going to Kentucky with Swanda — made me a “mob” deal — an offer I couldn’t refuse. And then I round round-trip on Northwest (not my first choice) for $206. At that price it isn’t even worth using my frequent flier miles to get a free ticket.

But here’s the odd thing. So, I book the ticket and want to choose seats and it gives me only the crappy choices in the back even though I put in my Alaska MVP number and they are partners. For $206, what the hell, I’ll fly in the loo if they want me to. Click “book-it” and the email comes back that I”m confirmed. For grins I check the reservation on-line and there is my Alaska number followed by MVP. Change seats? Sure — now I’m in bulkhead exit row for both long legs and 1B for the other regional jet flights.

It makes me wonder how this will work if Delta and Northwest merge. Will I have access to the best seats on both? or neither?

Found this on the web, but lost the link:

3 idle thoughts for Friday

Fri, Feb 22, 2008 | Terry Maxon, Dallas News

1. If it wasn’t for drinking Diet Cokes, I wouldn’t get any exercise at all.

2. It may be true that Continental Airlines and American Airlines have talked about a merger. But some truths are more true than others.

3. If the pilots at Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines can work out a deal to merge their seniority lists without rancor, they’re qualified to take on the issue of Mideast peace next.
