In the air, again

Packing in the morning. Off to the airport without looking at the bus schedule, forgetting it is Saturday with means half an hour between runs — I take the local since I have my lightweight jacket on rather the the Antarctic Parka (it’s in the van in the garage).

Out of the house without looking at the bus schedule — took the local, which means 45 minutes. Still time to get breakfast and drinks in the Board Room at Alaska Airlines (even though I’m flying United to get my last miles for the year). United flight is first late 30 minutes, then an hour. I have two hours in SF because I know both cities are unreliable for flights.

The delay got me bumped into first class. The lovely flight attendant was even nice enough to transfer my scotch from glass to plastic for the landing. Grabbed a spider roll on my layover at SFO which hanging out at the end of the terminal watching planes. I think I spotted a new United Airlines paint scheme in the maintenace area (first photo).

The cab ride was more than expected — $20 rather than $10, might have been taken on an “indirect” route — will take the airport shuttle on the way back for $4 — it will almost balance out. It seems that the Trendwest Reno is a refurbished strip hotel, well, slightly off the strip, though catty corner from the Sands Regency. It’s a weird layout, and on the second floor — even with the street lights, but the kitchen works, and there is an icemaker, so what more do I need.

After the news it was off in search of a grocery store, the closest was the Asian Market on 5th — where I discovered exactly how spoiled I am by living where I live. Luckily there was an Albertsons a block further. Really wish I’d brought the Antartic jacket as it was a bit nippy. Steaks and salads for the next two dinners, half a dozen eggs and bacon for the breakfasts, a Ravenswood Zin and a new bourbon called Origine (which they also had a single malt scotch and a gin from the same brand — looks like marketing to me.
