OK — so the minute that I wrote that, I’m wondering “Where The Hell Did That Come From?” The answer is a poem by Carl Sandburg. Got to love WikiPedia for answers to silly questions.
Seat 1B — my favorite. Seat 1A reminds me of a dream I had decades again about spiralling down into the middle of a city — and this was BEFORE that incident in 2001.
6:05am — NOT my favorite time for a flight to leave. Means up at 3am, to MasterPark by 4am, and then onto the airport. At least I get 50 miles a day to my Alaska account by parking there (and a free day if you park over two days).
Alaska Board Room doesn’t open until 5am, and the plane boards at 5:35am (and the bar doesn’t open until 6!) Decided to get a bag of wheat thins from the vending machine to stave off my hunger until what hopefully will be a hot breakfast since it’s a long flight and I did get upgraded to first.
More later from the “Hog Butcher To The World“, transfer time permitting.
SECOND CITY UPDATE:
Flight a couple of minutes early. Next flight doesn’t board for a half an hour — and had the wonderful O’Hare neon walk from C to B concourse. It’s always nice to arrive at your connecting gate and actually SEE your plane there.
Uneventful flight. Omelet, sausage, roasted potatoes, fruit, and a croissant for breakfast. So nice to have a couple of vodka cranberries, eat, sleep for an hour or so, wake up and have a couple of more vodka cranberries. Probably not good for me, but it’s not a bad way to live.
Now we are off to the city referred to as “The Home Of The Newly Wed And The Nearly Dead”.
UPDATE: SUNSHINE CITY
Who knew that was another “nickname”. Luggage by 5:30pm and we were in Roy’s by 5:45pm — just in time for our reservation. Who makes reservations assuming a plane will be on time!
Stunning meal — I shouldn’t have had last last piece of roll for dessert.
Later evening is hanging out with Dan in my room — working on phone and computer problems (solved) as I work my way through his scotch. It’s a good thing we are leaving tomorrow as he wouldn’t have any scotch left.
Early day tomorrow with an “all hands on” SOB (Shirts of Bamboo) meeting at 8:30am.
Once again, up early. Thank god I like this business.
