Birthday Dinner. 1.5 Years Late.

Before I get to the really, really late birthday dinner, I have news from the island. The potting shed now has hot and cold running water — the only joint that leaked when we charged up the system was a compression fitting on the water heater — and that had a shut-off value so it was easy to redo. Congratulations MoonSong — all those sweated fittings and not a single leak! Hopefully I’ll post the picture in a day or two (on this post) of what the final plumbing looks like. Not only did we get the water meter moved 6-9″, we got it’s casing back in, and one wall of the footing form installed. This is going to be GREAT!

Now, the downside of all this work is that I had a seven o’clock dinner with Helene from MSFT at the Brooklyn. The ferries off the island are 11am and 4pm — with nothing in between (but stuff before and after). Got the 4pm off the island, changed out of my muddy work clothes at the rest area (and into my nice “symphony/opera” clothes) and made it to the Brooklyn fifteen minutes early. Now that is timing!

The headline of today’s entry mentions a year and a half late birthday dinner. This was the birthday dinner celebration for my 50th birthday. I’m 51.4 at this point. And Helene still owes me another for the trip to Canada when she became a landed resident — though I’m not sure I helped, probably hurt.

Rest of the week is hectic with job searches, and the the Kinsey Sicks tomorrow with ex-Councilman Curt in Tacoma. Friday is meeting with the Head of Development for the Evergreen Foundation for lunch and a review of my scholarship and outreach efforts, then poker in the evening with the crew. Saturday is caucuses for the Democrats which means back on the island by 1pm. And Sunday is a brunch on Vashon — looks like Lopez is going to be an coming and going in one day.
